  5. Each captain is responsible to send (by email) any additions in the roster and the next days players to the other captains no later than 24 hours before the start of the first game of the next league day.
  6. The night before each league day the captains of all teams make a decision if the games will be played as scheduled or will be postponed. Cancellation of a league day is only possible if agreed by all 4 captains.
  7. The captain of the team playing at home is responsible for informing (by email) the other captains of the location where the games will take place, in particular when different from the scheduled one.

Player eligibility

  1. There is no limit to the number of players on a team roster, and players can be added to the roster at any time throughout the league.
  2. Each team is allowed to have up to two (2) non-Portuguese players on their roster.
  3. A player is considered ‘Portuguese’ when he/she has resided in Portugal for 2 years or more.
  4. Once a player is on a roster he/she can not play for any other team except when approved by all captains.
  5. When a team has 7 or less of their roster-players available they are allowed to invite non-roster, male players to play with them as long as the total number of non-roster players does not exceed three (3).
  6. A team is always allowed to add non-roster female players to play with them as long as the total number of non-roster players does not exceed three (3).

Women on the field

  1. All best efforts should be made to have as many women participate as possible.
  2. Each team must have at least 1 woman available to play each league day, and must be prepared to play points with only four male players if the offence has a woman on the line (see below).
  3. The offence chooses the number of women on the line and defence has to comply if possible, taking into account that at least one woman is a must (if not possible, then can play with four men).

Rules of play

  1. All games are played by the official BULA rules (http://beachultimate.org/BULA5-on-5.pdf)
  2. After 35 minutes of play the end of regular play time is indicated. Play continues until the next score is made. After this score a ‘cap’ is set which is 2 points more than the current highest score. The winner of the game is the team that first reaches the ‘cap’.
  3. The only exception is when a team reaches 15 points. When this happens the game is over irrespective of the score or time.
  4. If a team can not start a game within 5 minutes of the official starting time, without good reason, the opponent will receive one point per minute until the opponent can start play.
  5. Each team is allowed 1 timeout per game. Each timeout lasts one minute but the time is not added to the overall time (end of the game is still 35 minutes after the start).
  6. A timeout can be called at any time during the game, including the cap.
  7. Each team will award Spirit of the Game (SOTG) points after each game according the new BULA SOTG award system http://beachultimate.org/blog/2006/02/sotg.html

League winners

  1. Each team will receive 2 game points for a win, 1 game point for a loss, 0 points for a no-show. A no-show is considered if less than 4 players of a given team show up to play a league game.
  2. The winner of the league is the team that has the most game points after the last game.
  3. The winning team keeps the legendary wooden Beach Ultimate prize for one year and has the honour to add the team name to the list of winners. In addition the winning team will also receive a trophy they can keep.
  4. The winner of the SOTG award is the team that has the most points after the last game.
  5. There will be a prize for the team that wins the SOTG award.
